FANU
FANU’s unique style has definitely made an impact on today’s drum-and-atmosphere-hungry drum and bass audience. Always a busy man in the studio, he has released music on Subtitles, Commercial Suicide, Offshore, Breakin’, Warm Communications, Subtle Audio, Thermal, Forestry Service, LoCuts, Soothsayer, 13 Music, Pauze, Darkestral, and now he’s concentrating on his own label, Lightless Recordings – pushing deep atmospheres and dirty fat breaks.
This North American tour is very special as it celebrates the release of his 2nd full length LP entitled HOMEFREE which is due out very soon on his own imprint Lightless. HOMEFREE has already made a lot of noise in the drum and bass world as the dubs have been fueling tons of eagerly anticipant fans. On April 12th, 2008 BBA made its first and prominent mark on the Toronto drum & bass scene with the event RUDEMENTARY held at Revival’s Stone Lounge. It became one of the most talked about events of 2008.
The energy during that evening was intense as the DJ’s brought the crowd through a journey of rattling breakbeats and throttling sub basses.
I began the night with a more leftfield sound with tunes such as ‘Captain Freak’ by Seba, ‘Twitchy Droid Leg’ by Sileni, ‘Spellbound’ by Spirit, as well as a few personal creations.
DIWA followed and put on one of the most energetic and responsive sets I’ve seen and heard for the last while. FANU then closed off the night by dropping some classic gems, mixed in with some furious dubplates by himself as well as new producers such as Theory.
Check out these videos of DIWA’s set, which encapsulated the peak and pure energy of the night:
Breakage’s ‘Clarendon’ is dropped.

G Riddim mixes into Clarendon.

G Riddim drops. Arguably the peak of the night.
The crowd gets frenzy. Shots are ’sprayed’.

Crowd asks for rewind on G Riddim.

‘Tephlon Dub’ by Profane gets cut in.

Fanu’s ‘Siren Song’ gets dropped.
